Sharky. Well, well, well.....after a long journey, Sharky makes it back to our house!
What a survivor! While we had him he got sick and we got him to pull back to healthy.  Then, he gets adopted and the lady ends up not keeping him.  She wanted to give him back to us.  How could we say no to that?! This little guy was meant to live with us.  And so it begins....
Guess we are keeping him.
Sharky, we missed you!

Suprise!

Shelby is happy! We missed you Sharky.

Owlly is very curious.  Sharky isn't too sure of her.

Owlly Goodbye

Saying goodbye to Owlly was one of the hardest things I have had to do in a while.  I haven't cried so hard since Mia died.  When we first got her and she started coming out from hiding I noticed she had some hair missing on her tail and walked funny.  I thought it was because she had been sitting in her pee and hiding constantly.  Stress, anxiety, pee, no movement is a horrible combination.  We took her in for her recheck appt and they tested for ring worm and it was negative.  So thankful! We continued to work with her and got her to come out on her own, enjoy being around us, love pets and starting to explore.  She was due again for her recheck when I confirmed her appt. and they let me know that in deed she tested positive for ringworm!!! I thought they did test her and it was negative! Nope, I guess they did both test - the light one was negative and it didn't look like the textbook case.  UGH!!! UGH!!!!  We also had her back legs checked and she has lactating patella where her knee caps bump out of place.

SO......time to make the decision.  To keep fostering and do the ring worm protocol or not.
The last day before he appt I kept her in the crate.  Every time I would look at her I would cry. She looked so sad and wanted to come out so bad.  I can not commit to that protocol with the possibility of it spreading to our posse then having to do the treatment for all of us!  Especially since grandparents are coming and we are leaving island for vacation.  We had to return her. :( Hopefully she will find a great foster with a feline friend and if she needs fostering again once treatment is done we will take her back.

She was just beginning to come out of her shell and then this! Would she be stuck in the kennel at the shelter again??????? Poor thing!!!! UGH, ugh!  Here is a write up I did about her.

Chestnut, we named her Owlly.

Owlly is just now coming out of her shell from being completely terrified, hiding and hissing to being a cuddle, affectionate, curious love bug.  She needs someone who can gain her trust so she can be your amazing, cuddle companion that can hang out and be around you.

It was amazing to watch her go from her cute, little his and extreme terror, hiding in her box to wanting to hang out, get chin and belly rubs, and watch us with her curious eyes. She even started to meow to get let out to explore and hang out.  She is low energy and has trouble walking so really just wants Churru and love to melt her heart. She is the sweetest, loving girl once she trusts you. She will still occasionally hiss but she has never bitten or swatted, just a quiet little hiss.  She is now use to kids, a dog, the vacuum, and other cats. She is very curious and wants friends, both human and feline. She loves to play and toss around a toilet paper roll, toothbrush, tiny socks or go for the laser pointer.  We kept her in our bathroom in the beginning and then moved her to a crate in the kitchen so she could see us and all the action which helped her not be so scared. She loves to be pet on her back, chin rubs and belly rubs! She likes to be picked up gently, cuddle and lay with you on the sofa, eat fancy feast and kibble, and lick churru off your fingers!  Please be her cuddle buddy.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let her continue to be showered with love and let her fear be gone and trust people. Please let her be in good hands.  As I write this I am tearing up again. She really touched my heart, and I think we did the same to her!!! We will always love her.

Here is a video I made about her.

Kitten Season

 Kitten season is upon us.

I have not able to take babies since we were traveling, family visiting, our hearts welcoming Sharky back to our home, and refocusing on school.

Within one week, I denied a Maui Humane Society bottle baby (which ended up getting a foster), got a call from a friend on what to do with a kitten she trapped and then another call for a MHS bottle baby.

I ended up taking my friend's trapped kitten for an overnight and to the shelter the next day. Poor thing was sooooo terrified, covered in fleas and so hungry.  I was able to get it into a more comfy box with blankets, a litter box, and food/water. It is amazing how Churu treat works wonders. This poor kitten was so hissy, spitting, and trying to bite so I had to strategically move it around with the treat. I am confident that I could have worked with it for a few days and got it to relax. However, it really needed to be assessed and supported by foster team to get medical attention, supplies and support if needed and a foster that was ready to take on the challenge.  After, Owlly I was not ready for another socialization case! Especially a baby. I love it but it is too hard emotionally when they come around to trusting you and then you turn them over for adoption.

Cat Education:
Ideally, my friend should have released the kitten to see if Mom was around and if trapped it again then taken it in.  Babies are best with Mom until around 8 weeks when they can get fixed, adopted, or released back to their cat colony. This is a huge issue for kitten season and why so many end up at the shelter. People find kittens and don't see mom so bring them in.  Mom is probably out hunting. Best to leave babies unless they are in danger and monitor to see if mom comes back.

Poor thing!

Little more comfy!

Then, she called the next day saying she thinks she got mom and what to do.  I suggested she take it to the shelter and let them know her name and that it is probably Mom from the baby that was taken the day before. They could reunite them, be sure Mom is fixed and foster them out together until baby was old enough to get fixed and rereleased or adopted.

Another issue is cat trapping and relocating them.
(This happened to Baby Blue many years ago and luckily we found her!)
If you trap a cat, take it to the shelter. They can be sure it is fixed, scan it for a microchip to find their owner and preform any medical attention needed. This will help with the overpopulation of cats the more you trap and get fixed. Relocating them is potentially stealing a cat and dumping it, which is illegal!

help! SOLUTION-Getting cats fixed!!
Adopting from a shelter guarantees it is fixed. Trapping and taking it to the shelter gets it medical attention, fixed, reunites with an owner, or finds it a home.

This applies to dogs too.

UGH RIP Kittens

UGH, UGH. Sunday morning.

The adventures of kittens took a turn for the worse again. UGH, UGH.
It is crazy how quick they can go from playing, to sick, to death over night.
I had a feeling about her but hoped that I was wrong. She was so small, had a hard start to learning to eat from the bottle, wouldn't eat a lot, and not gaining weight. So fragile.
I hope you enjoyed your little life and I hope I gave you the best. Sorry if I didn't!!!

Sickness is never good for fragile babies. They must of gotten it from the shelter or Mom....Coccidia, an intestinal parasite, that can kill the babies. I hope Sharky does not come down with it! Luckily, he is old enough he should be fine if so! Oh please, please!! I do not need to lose another cat! :(

After a day of weaning, they were vomiting and not eating, losing a bunch of weight, and I could not get them to pull through. I tried all the food tatics, treats, even syringe for them all. It was exhausting and the fight sucks! It ended when Miss rose became a bag of bones and I knew she was on her way out. We took her to CMAC emergency per the Shelter Humane Officer and they had to put her down. Then, from my experience I had the feeling Mr.B may be following behind her. He was not eating either and delusional. So, we took him back to the shelter so he can get the help he needs. I pray he pulls through!!!

Well, he didn't make it either :( :( :(
I actually am in a sour puss mood about the whole event!
I may not be fostering anymore, at least for now! Not sure how I will be able to resist.

I reached out to follow up on the little guy and then learned he didn't make it. It is never easy but I always think I did something wrong. I feel like I was mislead. I was never told they had both Coccidia AND Panlukeopenia until they said panluke it is a toughy! WHAT?????
That is highly contagious and can kill cats that get it. So, here goes the freakout for my animals.
It has been a whirlwind of anxiousness, but I had Sharky tested and he "cross fingers" was negative for Coccidia! And he is vaccinated for Panluke, so is not suppose to get it. I am a mix of emotions from feeling mislead (again like with the ringworm case) and sad from losing the little ones. I hate to stop fostering but feel I cannot trust them anymore. I feel like they pressure me into the sick cases then mislead me so I say I will do it!
When I found out they had coccidia in the get go I did not want to take them back since I have family coming and end of school. Now, I know why they said I had done it before. I have not. I was in this situation before, then did not follow through with the continued care they tried to get me to do.

No drama! I know it is emotions speaking and probably miscommunication over text..
Long, confusing story but bottom line is TIME to simplify again and stick to our family and FURR family.
Sadly, the shelter is busting at the seams so I will have to look the other way for now!

RIP little Rose and Mr. B! Never easy. Why do I foster??? UGHGUGHGHGH.

Some kitten moments....
Sharky, what is in the bag?

Kittens learn to explore.

Mr. B is so precious. :( he always looked at me with those eyes.

Bella is helping herself to Baby Blue's food. I put it up so the dog and "Bella"
 and Sharky don't get it.....and.......

Sharky is taking notes...."food on window seal. Why isn't she getting into trouble??? I get up there and try to take a nap and wake up to being tossed off the counter??? I don't understand."
hahahahaha
Sharky, she is being sneaky and when she gets caught she gets in trouble!

Animal Kingdom

Ever since we got chickens, I have always wanted a peacock or ducks. I tease about it often. I think they are so beautiful and remind me of Mimi and Papa. Well.....careful what you wish for! One day we heard a honk sound....is that a peacock??? No. Yep, we saw one in the distance behind our house. Time passes, we go to the Bahamas and come back and see it standing on our neighbors lanai. What? Is it theirs? It is big, when did they get it? So confused, I texted them and sure enough it just showed up about a month ago. They are not feeding it, just letting it roam and it choses their yard. Ah, makes sense now!! It was in the other neighbors yard, then made its way to their lanai where it has been staying. They currently are gone so that may be the reason. We will see when they get back since they have kids and it can be loud over there! Poor guy looks unhealthy and stands around grooming or picking at his feathers......soooo....yep....we started feeding it! It is learning the routine quickly. Come in the morning and evening for a scoop of cat food, occasional berries and maybe some tomatoes or worms. Cat food and berries are his favorite! Wonder if he will make it to our yard.? The animal kingdom!

Buddy......

Bella is on guard. Is he there yet? I have to climb the crate to feed and look at him.

He is beautiful.

Peering over the fence.

Snack time.

They are so funny. The trio.

Hmmm....sunny has made her way to the kitchen door. "Is there a peacock around here?"

"Hey lady!!! I need some worms out here."

I missed this guy!!! LOVE HIM so much!!! He makes it hard to get more kittens,
which is a good thing since I need to focus on school. :)

My buddy.
